None, yet,
but it's definitely coming.
Due to the passage of the FasTracks
transit package, historic Union Station will be transformed into the
centerpiece of a massive multi-modal transportation hub, with additional
adjacent private commercial development. The proposed Union Station
transit facility is too significant of a project to describe in this space,
so please click
here to go to the page on the City of
Denver's website where the entire plan is available. This information
will also be available eventually in the Special Topics section of this
site.
* East of 15th Street,
Wewatta Street shifts one block to the north and runs along the Delgany
Street alignment due to the railroad tracks behind Union Station. |
This
double block (Block 014 is on the left and Block E is on the right in the
aerial) is home to Denver's historic Union Station. Once Denver's
gateway to the world, Union Station has quieted over the years and until a
few years ago welcomed only an occasional Amtrak train and the SkiTrain in
the winter. In 2002, however, RTD's "C Line" light rail route opened,
linking the rest of the city's light rail network with the Central Platte Valley's
sports and entertainment venues and Lower Downtown, with Union Station as the terminus. With the Denver Union
Station Master Plan and FasTracks funding in place, Union Station will soon
become once again Downtown Denver's gateway to the world. |
