This
is the only block on DenverInfill.com split between two subareas of
Downtown. On the Central Downtown side, the site is fully occupied by
two structures: the beautiful Church of the Holy Ghost, built in 1943.
In the 1980s, the church sold its air rights for development, resulting in
the other structure on this side of the block, 1999 Broadway, which features
a curved "U" shaped design as it wraps around the church. 1999
Broadway is also known for its green neon which outlines the edges of the
building, creating an identifiable landmark on the city's skyline in the
evening.
The other
half of this block is quite the opposite--essentially, a surface parking lot
with a small car rental building--and the 20th & Welton Light Rail station. |
