Hampton Inn |
 |
While not
an infill development per se, this block received a big boost through
the redevelopment of the old Columbine Building into a new Hampton Inn &
Suites hotel. In the early '00s, the Columbine Building was stripped
of its mid-century modernist facade as part of a planned conversion into a
parking garage. That redevelopment fell through, leaving an empty
shell of a building (see Sherman Street elevation photo). In 2005,
Stonebridge Companies renovated the building into a 148-room Hampton Inn
hotel. |
The
introduction of the Hampton Inn hotel to this block should greatly help
bring more activity to this area. Unfortunately, the abundance of
surface parking lots around here undermines the potential to create a strong
link between the booming Uptown neighborhood to the east and Central
Downtown. Hopefully, the new hotel will prompt infill development on
this block and eliminate another ugly parking lot. |
